How to make kinetic sand art?
Making a DIY kinetic sand art could be a memorable time for a parent and a kid. This kinetic sand art could be displayed and played with after it's done. Get ready with the following materials to begin your kinetic sand art project.
These are the materials needed:
• Two identical picture frames with a glass facade
• 1/4-inch gasket material
• Silicone aquarium sealant
• 2 colored sand
• Distilled water
• Duct tape
• Scissors
• A clean piece of cotton cloth
• A funnel with a 1/4-inch nozzle
The exciting part is to make it and do it step at a time.
Assemble all the Parts - Take both the back off for each picture frame thus separating the glass from the other parts. Wipe both sides of the glass to make it clear. Place one piece of glass on a level surfaced table.
Design Your Painting - You need to choose your desired design. It could be a garden or nature-themed like an ocean view or a mountain range. You then have to sketch it and carve it on the rubber gasket. There should be spaces in-between that would let you pour in the sand.
Build the pieces together - Cut the gasket to create a lining for the outer edge of the glass, and also create the shape for the sand and water to flow freely inside. Cut a 1-inch section out of the top of the gasket and put it aside. You'll use this ope space later to pour in the sand and water.
Glue the pieces – With the silicone aquarium sealant, glue down the pieces of the gasket to just one side of the glass.
Wait for it to dry, then put the sealant on the other side of the gasket and glue the second pane of glass. Make sure that the seal is tight by spreading another layer of sealant around the outside edges of the glass that's around the gasket material, and let it dry. Leave a 1-inch opening at the top of the glass.
There should be water testing by pouring a little water into the opening to be sure it doesn't leak at all. Empty the glass after trying this procedure.
Add the Sand and Water - Measure around 1/4 to 1/2 cup of each color of sand you're using. Pour the sand using the funnel to the opening and in between the glass. Check that all the edges of the glass are tightly sealed.
After the sand is in, pour distilled water using the funnel again and in between the glass.
Finish the Frame - The frame needs to be almost full of water, and you need to hold the panes in a vertical position using two hard-bound books to seal it better. You could add more sand if you desire it. Glue the 1-inch section of the gasket and allow it to dry completely. To cap it off, add more sealant around the edges of the gasket to cover the seal.
Lastly, support the sealant - Cut 1/4-inch strips of duct tape and place them to the edges of the glass to support your sealant. Glue the glass into the side of the frame with your sealant. Let it dry completely, and you're ready to glue the other side of the glass to the other side of the frame. Wipe the glass using a cotton cloth to make new kinetic sand art picture sparkle beautifully.
